Our most recent adventure took us to the national parks in Washington state during mid-May and we were very happy to have our son Kyle and his girlfriend Sarah join us. Starting in Seattle we drove the southern route around Olympic National Park, working our way through the various areas of the park. We stayed at the scenic Kalaloch Lodge right on the Pacific coast for two nights, then in Sequim for a night. We then took the ferry from Port Townsend to Whidbey Island on our way to North Cascades National Park for a two-night stay. Our final stop was Mount Rainier National Park, where we stayed at the historic Paradise Inn on the mountainside, then returned to Seattle for our flight home. Total mileage driven for this trip was 1,367 miles. Overall, it was a great trip, but it might have been better later in the spring or summer, given the weather and trail/road closures due to snow, especially at Mount Rainier.
