Our first adventure takes us from Rapid City, South Dakota, to Casper, Jackson, and Yellowstone, Wyoming, and ends in Bozeman, Montana. Along the way, we'll see The Badlands, Mount Rushmore, the Crazy Horse Memorial, Wind Cave National Park, Devils Tower National Monument, Fort Caspar Museum, Bridger-Teton National Forest, Grand Teton National Park, and Yellowstone National Park (from the south, west, and north). This 10-day itinerary worked out well with two nights at each location...it seemed to be about the right amount of time at each location, with enough time to see the sights, do some hiking, and enjoy a brew pub or two. Getting an America the Beautiful national park pass prior to travel is a must...it has already more than paid for itself! Our total mileage for the trip ended up being close to 1,900 miles. We rented a four-wheel drive vehicle, which we would also recommend, since it allowed us to travel unpaved roads that would have been difficult (if not impossible) for a standard rental vehicle.
